Rhetorical Term: INVENTION

Defintion: Invention is one of the five canons (principle) of rhetoric. These five canons include: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. Rhetoric can be defined as an art thats soul purpose is to effectively persuade an audience on any given topic. Invention, or inventio (Latin), is the discovery of arguments. Through the use of rhetoric, a speaker "invents" or contrives an argument that an audience could be persuaded to believe is true.
