Course Description[edit | edit source]

An Introduction to World History provides students the opportunity to explore basic periods of human history in a global fashion. This course additionally provides students with a rigorous framework covering from approximately prehistory to the study of the modern world. Students are currently being accepted and classes will begin around April 8, 2006

In general, class will be held around 4-5 times monthly and meaningful assignments are given on a fairly regular basis including, but not limited to: essays, readings, textbook discussion questions, and the like.

Class Weights and Measures[edit | edit source]

In "An Introduction to World History", class will be accessed in the following manner:

Comprehensive Level:

  • 50% Examinations (includes tests and quizzes)
  • 30% Essays, writings, projects
  • 20% Homework assignments

Accelerated Level:

  • 65% Examinations
  • 30% Essays, writings, homework
  • 5% Homework assignments

Class Assignments[edit | edit source]

Comprehensive Level

  • Read "The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race" by Jared Diamond. This is an excellent introductory work for the Agricultural Revolution. Additionally, within the World History textbook of Wikibooks, read the introductory sections pertaining to early peoples and the Neolithic Revolution. Although this text doesn't cover the Neolithic Revolution in the greatest magnitude, the reading does and excellent job applying such information. Notes will be posted on this page and opportunities for discussion will also be available. You should expect and essay pertaining to this reading. A good site to visit for this reading is http://anthropology.lbcc.edu/handoutsdocs/mistake.pdf
