General information
[edit source]What is two-factor authentication?
[edit source]Two-factor authentication is the addition of security to your Wikimedia global account to prevent your account being compromised. Two-factor authentication contains two factors:
- First factor: Your password for your account.
- Second factor: Verification code retrieved from an app on a mobile device or computer.
Before enabling 2FA, please ensure that you have a strong password that is exclusively used for Wikibooks. The Wikimedia Foundation recommends that the password for your global account is not the same as the password for your account on other websites.
Why is two-factor authentication required?
[edit source]Occasionally, the Wikimedia Foundation requires two-factor authentication for roles for both legal and security reasons.
