Excerpt - 《Women at Forty》 / Author: He Huimin

Men like to eye women[edit]

Nánrén àiyòng yǎnjīng kàn nǚrén, cháng shòu měinǚ yòuhuò; nǚrén ài yòng xīn qù xiǎng nánrén, cháng shòu xīn de zhémó.

Men like to eye women, always seduced by beautiful women; women like to think about men by heart, always tormented by heart.

Women in the eyes of men[edit]

Nǚrén duì nánrén éryán, wǎngwǎng yīgè bùzú; nánrén duì nǚrén láishuō, zhídé ài de nánrén zhǐyǒu yīgè.

Women in the eyes of men, one is not enough; men in the eyes of women, only one man is worth loving.

For men[edit]

...

...

Duì nánrén éryán, yībèizi xiǎngzhe yào qù ài shuí; duì nǚrén láishuō, yībèizi zhǐ xiǎng tīng xīnyí de àilǚ duì tā shuō "ài nǐ", yǒng tīng bùyàn.

For men, one life is spent thinking about loving the women whom one is desired; for women, one life is spent wanting to listen to the heart-admired love partner saying to her: "Love you", never getting bored.

Past standard was "women at forty are like stale tea residues"[edit]

Yǐqián de biāozhǔn, shì "nǚrén sìshí làn chá zhā"; rújīn shídài bùtóng, "nǚrén sìshí yī zhī huā",

Past standard was "women at forty are like stale tea residues"; nowaday things are different, "women at forty are like a shoot of flower",

Many female friends of Yunni praised her beauty[edit]

Yīzhòng nǚyǒu dōu zàn Yúnnī piàoliang. Zěnzhī tā lùchū yīsī kǔxiào, yōuyōu de shuō shíjiān rú báijūguòxì, guāngyīn cóng zhǐféngjiān fēishì, tánzhǐjiān zìjǐ yǐ cóng qīngsè de shàonǚ, kuàguò sānshí de cànlàn ér jìnrù sìshí de huánghuò. Tā yòu zhǐ yī zhǐ zìjǐ de yǎnjiǎo hé étóu shuō, suìyuè wúqíng, yǐ yòng kèdāo zài zhèxiē dìfāng xìzhuó chū shǎoxǔ bōwén, rújīn tā suī shì měiróngyuàn de chángkè, què wǎnbùhuí xīrì měiyàn.

Many female friends of Yunni praised her beauty. Somehow she displayed a trace of bitter smile and sadly said time fly by like white horses crossing crevices and through fingers. At the snap of the fingers, one turned from a young girl, through the exuberance at thirty year-of-age and entered the angst at forty year-of-age. She then pointed to her corner of the eyes and her forehead and said: "Time and tide wait for no man, time is without pity." Having used a carving knife, finely crafting a few corrugations at these parts. She, nowadays although is a regular customer at the beauty salon, yet she still can not retrieve past beauty.

Weilian has his own style of artist insight[edit]

Wēilián, què yǒu tā de yī tào yìshùjiā jiànjiě, shuō èrshí suì nǚrén shì shī, sānshí suì nǚrén shì sǎnwén, sìshí suì nǚrén shì lùnwén. Nǚrén sìshí, shì Qiūtiān de Shíyuè, shì chéngshú de jìjié, rú Qiūtiān shùyè de níngjìng, zìrán ér xiánghé.

Weilian has his own style of artist insight, said women at twenty year-of-age is like poetry, women at thirty year-of-age is like prose, women at forty year-of-age is like thesis. Women at forty in October in autumn, is the season of maturity, like the serenity of autumn leaves, natural and affable.

I sensed women at forty is a deep pool of lake water[edit]

Wǒ yě juédé nǚrén sìshí shì yī tán píngjìng de húshuǐ, yǒu róngnà-bǎichuān de xiōnghuái; yě rú yī bēi Xī Hú Lóngjǐng, dàndàn de cháwèi què yǒu chíjiǔ de xiāngqì. Tā yǐjīng gàobiéle èrshí suì de máozao, sānshí suì de fúzào, què kěyǐ chéngzài shēnghuó de tián-suān-kǔ-là, suìyuè móliàn chū tā yǒu yī fèn cóngróng zhèndìng, chénwěn ruìzhì, dǒngdé zěnyàng lǐxìng de dùguò yúshēng.

I sensed women at forty is a deep pool of lake water, having the capacity of hundred of waterways in heart and mind. Also like a cup of Xi Hu Longjing tea, bland in taste yet having a lasting aroma. She bid farewell to the irritability of twenty year-of-age and the impetuousity of thirty year-of-age, yet can bear the weight of all sorts of joys and sorrows in life. With time she tempered a degree of calmness and composure, profound, wise and farsighted, she knew how to spend the rest of her life rationally.
