Open Book of Ecovillages and Eco Communities

From Wikibooks, open books for an open world

Ecovillages and Eco Communities are around the world

The Open Book of Ecovillages and Eco Communities is being created as part of the open, community knowledge base of Wikibooks, so its content can be freely expanded and modified. As an international, multilingual platform, it globally supports the collaborative work of experts in developing advanced programs. Its aim is not to rigidly classify individual communities and activities, but to present the models and processes behind them. Communal farming, responsible resource management, various forms of co-housing, the application of permaculture and other sustainability models, as well as community experiments aimed at mitigating social problems, are all part of a larger, dynamically evolving process of change that we can follow and actively participate in here.

These initiatives are diverse, based on local needs, cultural backgrounds, and creative solutions, so categorizing them into rigid categories would be misleading. The introductions include key terms (which may later become technical terms) that convey conceptual frameworks; separate explanatory pages can be launched for these, which will form the backbone of the knowledge base and inspire the creation of further models and groups (The book's diverse categories help to overview these). The book does not intend to label groups, but to provide a comprehensive picture of the social, ecological, and economic processes taking place within them, all of which share the common goal of creating a more sustainable and livable world.

Since this book is a community project of Wikibooks, contributions from readers and researchers play a key role in continuously enriching the content, refining sources, and introducing new perspectives.
