Mega Man (classic series)/Spin-off Games/
Aside from the main games in the classic series, there are many more games that the original Mega Man has starred in.
Game Boy games
[edit | edit source]In 1991, Capcom introduced a "spin-off" series of sorts for the Game Boy. These games technically are not really spin-offs, but some do not consider them part of the main series. In any event, these games are:
- Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge (Gameboy, 1991)
- Mega Man II (Gameboy, 1991)
- Mega Man III (Gameboy, 1992)
- Mega Man IV (Gameboy, 1993)
- Mega Man V (Gameboy, 1994)
Mega Man All-Stars
[edit | edit source]In 1994, Capcom decided to take Nintendo's approach with Super Mario All-Stars and produce its own "Mega Man All-Stars" by compiling previous games and giving them a 16-bit facelift. What resulted was an obscure Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) game that included Mega Man, Mega Man 2, and Mega Man 3, all with upgraded graphics and remixed soundtracks. Additionally, upon completion of all three games, there was a bonus game called Wily Tower that introduced three new bosses and a new fortress to challenge Mega Man, though he could bring in whatever weapons/upgrades he wanted to from the previous games. This game had two released versions:
- Rockman Mega World (Japanese Sega Mega Drive, 1994)
- Mega Man: The Wily Wars (European Sega Mega Drive, 1994)
Arcade Games
[edit | edit source]Capcom took the series to the Arcade in 1995 with fighting titles that pitted Mega Man, Protoman, and Bass against many of the Robot Masters from previous titles in an all-out foray. The first game received a sequel that introduced Duo from MM8. These titles were compiled into a Neo-Geo Pocket Color game later on. These titles are:
- Mega Man: The Power Battle (Arcade, 1995)
- Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters (Arcade, 1996)
- Rockman Battle & Fighters (Neo-Geo Pocket Color, 2000)
Super Adventure Rockman (FMV)
[edit | edit source]In 1998, Capcom introduced a unique interactive-anime game for the Sega Saturn that was spread over three discs. The game was basically an anime movie in which players could make choices to determine the course of events (Which direction should Mega Man go?), make split-second decisions, etc. The game also had first-person shooting battles against enemies and Robot Masters. This rather rare and unique title was:
- Super Adventure Rockman (Sega Saturn, 1998)
WonderSwan games
[edit | edit source]In 1999, Bandai produced a "sequel" of sorts for the WonderSwan to Rockman & Forte which they called Rockman & Forte: Challenger from the Future. This game involved Quint/Rockman Shadow coming from the future with an army of advanced robots to attack the city, and Mega Man and Bass are called to action to defeat him. This game is:
- Rockman & Forte: Challenger from the Future (WonderSwan, 1999)
Rockman Strategy
[edit | edit source]In 2001, Dream Come True released a strategy game on October 29th, 2001 for the PC (CD-ROM), but only in Taiwan and in Chinese. This game was, however, officially licensed by Capcom and has 3D graphics and many believe to be one of the best games in the series featuring Robot Masters based on the Zodiac signs, especially for a strategy title. Though it can prove to be extremely elusive, it may be possible to import it if one desires to do so. This game is:
- Rockman Strategy (PC, 2001)
