The term "Macro" has been derived from the Greek word MAKROS which means large. Therefore macroeconomics is that branch of economics which deals with the economy as a whole. It is the study of economic aggregates, (or macro economic variables) such as national income, total employment, total savings, total investment, total consumption, general price level, etc. That is why it has also been called aggregative economics
