History[edit | edit source]

Development[edit | edit source]

A crowdfunding campaign was launched in February 2016 and raised 512,000 British pounds.[2] Dickinson Associates, the company of Rick Dickinson, designed the system concept by Feburary 2016.[3]

Launch[edit | edit source]

On May 8th, 2018 Sky decided to revoke the rights to use the Spectrum name.[2] On August 1st, 2018 with some units having begun shipping it was announced that the company producing the handheld would loose the rights to use the Spectrum name on August 7th, 2018.[2]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

During and following an extremely troubled launch, the console did not fare well. Indiegogo began seeking debt collection by June 6th, 2018.[4] By February of 2019 Retro Computers LTD began to shutter itself through a "Wind Up" process.[5][6]

Technology[edit | edit source]

The buttons of the ZX Spectrum Vega+ were a subject of note.

The GPL licensed software Free Unix Spectrum Emulator (FUSE) is used to emulate Spectrum games on the ZX Spectrum Vega+.[1]
