The Nvidia Shield Portable was launched in 2013 at a cost of $299.[1] At the time of launch the system was simply known as the Nvidia Shield.[2]

The Nvidia Shield Tablet was announced in 2014.[3]

A Nvidia Tegra 4 SoC with a quad core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU clocked 1.9GHz at powers the Nvidia Shield Portable[4][2]

The Shield Portable has 2 gigabytes of RAM.[5][2]

Hardware[edit | edit source]

The Nvidia Shield Portable has 16 gigabytes of built in storage, as well as a microSDXC card slot.[2]

The Nvidia Shield Portable has a five inch screen with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels and multitouch support.[2] The system also has a micro-HDMI port for AV out.[2]

The system has a microphone, GPS, a three axis accelerometer and three axis gyroscope.[6][2]

The Shield Portable has 2x2 Mimo b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 3.0.[6][2]

The Nvidia Shield Portable has a 28.8 watt hour battery.[2][7]

Unusually for handheld gaming devices of the time, the shield sported an ergonomic grip design.[8]

The system was shipped with version 4.2 of the Android operating system.[2]
