Chapter 9 covers catabolism and anabolism of macronutrients. Metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids are reviewed individually and together tying in information from earlier chapters. Specifically, this chapter looks at the biochemistry of nutrition including the conversion of food to fuel in glycolysis, the TCA cycle, and the electron transport chain. Returning to the idea that “We are what we eat” students will learn how components of food are used in gluconeogenesis, glyconeogenesis, non-essential amino acid synthesis, and lipogenesis.[edit]
