DescriptionEastern end of Ringstead Bay shingle beach - geograph.org.uk - 266874.jpg
English: Eastern end of Ringstead Bay shingle beach DorsetEngland. At this point the chalk and greensand boulders on the beach (debris from the White Nother undercliff) give way to shingle beneath the Kimmeridge Clay cliffs. The cliff to the left of the house (appositely called Cliff House) was originally called Holworth Cliff, but is now called the "Burning Cliff" after a fire that started in the bituminous shale in 1826. A detailed account of the geology and history is given in Ian West's internet field guide to The Geology of the Wessex Coast... http://www.soton.ac.uk/~imw/kimfire.htm#burncliff
