Biology of the siphonophore

From Wikibooks, open books for an open world

page 1: zooids

[edit | edit source]

Siphonophores have specialized zooids unlike other colonial organisms like pyrosomes. Siphonophore contain the following zooids: Nectophores, Bracts, Gastrozooids, Palpons, Gonophores and some many siphonophores but not all contain Pneumatophores.

Some zooids eat some reproduce some digest some help with buoyancy some sting prey and some move the colony. Evan thought they have specialized zooids there still colonies. Some may say that they lie in a continuum we’re 1 fades into the other but they’re wrong.

page 2: taxonomy
