Prima facie     (Latin) On the face of it. Prima facie is a legal term implying that the facts of the case are sufficiently clear to be accepted without proof unless evidence to the contrary is shown. The solicitor J. J. O'Molloy is arguing that there was clearly and indisputably no attempt on Bloom's part to have carnal knowledge of Mary O'Driscoll.
