The Lavender Tower is a location in Lavender Town in the Kanto region of the Pokémon universe.
When you first come across the tower, you can enter it but not have any success, as you will lack the necessary Silph Scope to see the ghost Pokémon you encounter. You cannot capture or fight these unidentified ghost Pokémon. After finishing up with Celadon City, Fuchsia City, and Saffron City, you will have earned the Silph Scope by rescuing the president of Silph Co. from Giovanni and Team Rocket and can access the tower properly.
Pokémon Tower contains many Ghost Pokémon such as Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar. On the 6th floor there is the ghost of a mother Marowak who cannot rest. This is alluded to earlier in the storyline as one trainer will inform you that a Cubone lost its mother. Upon defeating the Marowak, its soul will be at peace and it will depart. You cannot catch this unique ghost Pokémon.
Throughout the tower are Chanellers who have been possessed. Defeating them frees them from their possession. There is one Chaneller on the fourth floor who has managed to avoid possession, and has created a safe zone with white magic that you can enter to restore your Pokémon. On the top floor are Team Rocket grunts who wish to keep you from rescuing Mr. Fuji from the tower. Upon defeating them, you can retrieve Mr. Fuji, who will give you a Pokéflute to help you continue your journey.
In Pokémon Gold and Silver, the Tower was destroyed and replaced with a Radio Tower just like the one in Jhoto's Goldenrod City.
