A Traveler's Guide to the World of Pokémon/Hoenn/Sky Pillar

From Wikibooks, open books for an open world

Sky Pillar is a tower in the Pokémon series. It is located in the Hoenn region. It plays a major role in Emerald, especially since the top level is where you capture Rayquaza in all three games.

Items needed

[edit | edit source]

You need HM03, Surf, and the Mach Bike for Sky Pillar. You need Surf since Sky Pillar is on an island in the ocean, and you need the Mach Bike because there are cracks in the floors that you will fall through unless you go quickly over them with the Mach Bike.

Role in plot

[edit | edit source]

Although Sky Pillar is only an extra in Ruby and Sapphire, it plays a major role in Emerald. In Emerald, you need to go to Sky Pillar to summon Rayquaza to solve the problem of the fight between Kyogre and Groudon in Sootopolis City.

Rayquaza

[edit | edit source]

When you reach the final floor of Sky Pillar, you can catch Rayquaza, the legendary figure of the Sky in the games - the exception being when you call it to calm Kyogre (legendary figure of the water) and Groudon (legendary figure of the land) down after their cataclysmic second fight. However, every other time you can try to catch Rayquaza for yourself to own, it is always at level 70, thus being hard to catch. You need to beat the Elite 4 to catch Rayquaza in the Ruby and Sapphire games. In Emerald, you can catch Rayquaza after you stop the fight between Groudon and Kyogre.

Obtainable Pokémon

[edit | edit source]

Besides Rayquaza, you can catch Claydol, Banette(in Sapphire and Emerald), Dusclops(in Ruby), Sableye(in Sapphire and Emerald), Mawile(in Ruby), Altaria, and Golbat. However, the Pokémon, or unevolved forms of them, are catchable in other areas as well. In Emerald, they are at a considerably lower level than in Ruby or Sapphire, since the player must go through the tower earlier in the game.
