The Abandoned Ship is an abandoned ship full of holes in the Pokémon games Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, which can only be accessed after HM03, Surf, is obtained, as it is in the ocean. However, it is also recommended that HM08, Dive, is at hand, in order to be able to get the Scanner on the ship.
By surfing rightwards from Dewford Town, the ship should be able to be found. It has a lot of locked doors, which require keys to enter. There is also a patch of water dive can be used in, to eventually find an underwater room, which if it is surfaced at, a puzzle-esque scenario containing 6 rooms, but only a few unlocked, will be found. Keys need to be found in the available rooms to unlock the others, and by the end, the Scanner item can be found.
Another place of interest is a room containing a scientist, as if the Scanner is shown to him, he will tell the player to give it to Captain Stern in Slateport City, and when the player does give the Scanner to Captain Stern, he will give the player either a Deep Sea Tooth, which evolves Clamperl into Huntail if the Clamperl is traded while holding that item, or a Deep Sea Scale, which evolves Clamperl into Gorebyss if the Clamperl is traded while holding that item, depending on which one is picked. If the player visits the scientist again later on, he will note that the ship is called the "S.S. Cactus," and that it seems to be from an earlier era.
There are other rooms in the ship as well, most of them containing trainers. Some of the doors to these rooms are broken, and can instantly be entered. Also, since there are holes on the floors of the ship, it can't be explored to its full potential.
Fishing and using Sweet Scent in the patches of water are the only ways to find wild Pokémon, and even then, it will just be common ones obtainable at many other places, like Tentacool. Also, it is possible to obtain a Water Stone in the ship, which is the only one in the game, unless a Blue Shard is traded with the Diving Treasure Hunter.
