What else does this page need? It's pretty basic right now. Does it need more technical detail? Thanks. — RJHall 17:41, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Added a section about ruby laser

I added some illustrations of a ruby laser. I took some artistic license to make the pictures clearer and hopefully easier to understand. They need to be checked for accuracy. They might need to be resized (I left most of them about half their full size). Also need to know if the brightness/contrast is ok on other monitors.

I also added a description which needs to be checked for accuracy, without making it too technical. I wonder if the heading "How a Ruby Laser Works" might be deleted, and just mention in the introductory paragraph that the section describes the working of a ruby laser? Maybe there's no need for the sub-headings at all? --Mcgill 18:17, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I think the technical level is appropriate for the wikijunior level-no problems there.

The section on the internals of the ruby rod/silvered vessel is maybe a little light on content-suggest that you make note of the highly silvered/reflective vessel that focusses the flash-tube energy into the rod, as well as the necessity for water cooling within the vessel-The laser is very hot when working.

Otherwise good explanation! --Richard 02:41, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. I added your points to the text. Probably some omissions and errors remaining in the ruby laser section, if anyone wants to make corrections. I think other sections need to be simplified if they're going to be understood by the average 8-year-old. --Mcgill 05:46, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
