Wikijunior talk:How Things Work/Hard Drive

I'm a preservice teacher currently formulating a curriculum for teaching gifted 4th and 5th graders about how computers work. I'm not sure whether or not you've worked with 8-11 year olds, but the existing "how it works" section of this article is far too technical for such an age group. Kids at this stage of cognitive development are capable of handling abstractions to allow them to deal with strange new concepts, but they need to be based on things that they've had experience with; thus, I would argue that a host of metaphors would be needed to make this sort of information comprehensible.

If some spare time presents itself, I'll try to contribute to this project.

Great! Sounds like you have some valuable insight to share. --Xixtas 02:31, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Hmm... Yes, far too technical. I don't know anything about hard-drive design, so somone look over my edits :-p I hope nothing is factually incorrect about them. But... yeah, someone look over my edits. I tried to write with an 8-12 year old in mind. --Dragontamer 16:46, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
