203.200.10.35, I don't know if you'll see this, but this is what I took from the Vedic Civilization article on Wikipedia:

The main deities of the Vedic pantheon were Indra, Agni (fire), and Soma. Other deities were Varuna, Surya (the Sun), Mitra, Vayu (the wind). Goddesses included Ushas (the dawn), Prithvi (the Earth) and Aditi. Rivers, especially Sarasvati, were also considered goddesses.

I noticed you added Brahma, Vishnu, and the other one whose name I can't spell :) as the most important Gods. I thought they didn't become important until much later, after the Vedic civilization.--Shanel 15:06, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

As far as I know (and I am sure being a part of Vedic Civilization / Hindu) that the followings were not part of Vedic Civilization. They were however a part of Indus Valley Civilization but not the vedic.

The Ashvamedha or horse sacrifice The Purushamedha or human sacrifice. Rituals concerning demonology and magic.

Vedic rituals never included any magic, sacrifice etc.

[edit] Indus Valley Civilization?

This section was added by the anon above; it sounds like the Indus Valley Civilization, not the Vedic. I'll remove it for now until someone can verify it:

"The cities of the Vedic people were divided into two parts, both covered by walls. The inner region of cities contained the administrative block along with the town centre, king's palace, main temple and living quarters of important persons of the city. The outer regions were inhabited by the general public, and contained buildings such as markets. Cities had roads running from north to south and east to west, dividing the city into squares. Their cities also had drainage systems, much like the cities of today."--Shanel 05:45, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sanskrit originals

I can't read the original sanskrit in my browser (konqueror), does anyone know how to make them work?
