Woodland Sunflower
(Helianthus divaricatus)
Description:
This wildflower likes sunny, open spaces, and can survive in dry, sandy soils. It grows to a height of three to eight feet. The yellow rays of the flower surround the yellow florets in the center disk, making a flower about 3 inches in diameter. The leaves are shaped like a tear-drop, and range from one to four inches long. The leaves are sessile (Sess-ile) meaning they attach directly to the stalk without a stem.

Quick Facts:
Native Americans used the root of this plant to rid themselves of worms.
