South Carolina is a state located in the southern or Deep South region of the United States of America. It borders Georgia to the south and North Carolina to the north. South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union and was a founding state of the Confederate States of America. South Carolina currently ranks 24th in population. The capital and largest city is Columbia.
