Does anybody else wish to start a WikiProject to improve page design? I am thinking specifically of the Main Page and the Bookshelves page, and the individual department pages. If we could make them more like the Wikijunior page, the site would be a lot easier to navigate. At the moment, it is easy to find your way within one book, but browsing the library is nearly impossible. --Runnerupnj 01:45, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree with your assesment, but I would like to warn you that navigation and organization are much larger projects then you might realize. The mainpage probably could use a redesign, and many of the navigational links could likely be made more clear and obvious. It's quite unhelpful as "Wikibooks:Wikiproject bookname" is far to much of a mouthful. No easy way to use in conversation, to long to put into sidemenus etc. Hence it's not used in wikiprojects Wikibooks:Counter-Vandalism_Unit, Wikibooks:Wikipublish etc. ChessCreator (talk) 15:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I strongly disagree that 'All wikiprojects should use Wikibooks:Wikiproject XXXXXXX as the format to avoid any such conflicts.' If you are concerned about the conflicts a better way is to redirect Wikibooks:Wikiproject XXXXXXX to whatever format is choosen. It's quite inappropriate to change existing wikibooks that have already been branded with a name, and known as that name from many links in wikibooks and elsewhere (like wikipedia). Also the practical problems of the name 'Wikibooks:Wikiproject XXXXXXX' being to long to sensible displayed in sidebars. ChessCreator (talk) 15:41, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Well the point is that Wikibooks:History will presumably not be a redirect forever since that should be a page about the history of Wikibooks. That's only one example, which prompted the move. In these cases, it is necessarily impossible to have a redirect since there'd be content there. The consistent naming scheme suggested avoids those conflicts, allows easy recognition from a pagename, and also allows easy search using the prefixindex. Finally, there are any number of workarounds for long pagenames wherever they may occur. As for having a "brand" -- the Wikiprojects at issue were created last week, so I don't see how there's some identity crisis created by a pagemove. Regardless, it's not my place to force anything upon the maintainers of these pages, so you're of course free to leave it as-is. I just think there are good reasons to use that naming scheme and trivial reasons not to.  – Mike.lifeguard | ^talk 01:25, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
