Hello. I got involved with the related Wikipedia Mixed Drinks WikiProject in late November 2006. At the time, the w:List of cocktails was in very bad shape. A few edits turned into well over a thousand edits in that article and the articles linked from that page. I quickly realized that this was too big of a job for one person, and I worked to revive the WikiProject responsible for overseeing these articles.
Along the way, I encountered the WikiBooks Bartending Guide. I think it holds great potential, but, sadly, it seems to often just be a dumping ground for bits of rejected information from Wikipedia that had nowhere else to go. I hope that this Project can help to change that. Whether or not the Bartending Guide becomes a true text book book for student mixologists or just a great reference for enthusiast home bartenders, I think the Guide, good as it is already, can be improved. And it will help if there is plenty of open communication between Wikipedia and Wikibooks so WikiBooks can cease being Wikipedia's dumping grounds.
I have made several goofs along the way, but all with the best of intentions. :-) Fortunately there are a lot of great people both here and at Wikipedia who offer help when you need it. I have found that even when I think my way is best, there is usually a better way to do things. Therefore, I am a pretty open-minded person, even if I seem a bit hesitant at first. I have invested a lot of time and effort into improving the topics related to these WikiProjects.
This is rather ironic, considering that I rarely drink mixed drinks, alcoholic or otherwise. My knowledge on the subject has increased dramatically, but I am still far from an expert when it comes to details about the various drinks. I am a quick learner, an effective researcher, a decent copy editor, and a good organizer. These are all talents that have been put to the test since getting involved in this WikiProject.
My favorite alcoholic drinks: Mai Tai (if a blender is available) or a Rum & Coke if not. Favorite non-alcoholic drinks: water and tea.
