[edit] Discussion

It's awfully sad that this page is in the sidebar but never visited, whereas for the Staff Lounge it is just the reverse. What gives? Sj 22:14, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] This page doesn't get a lot of attention

Maybe redirect it to the staff lounge? --SB_Johnny | talk 11:17, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

You're right about the attention. I'm not too excited, however, in mixing the two pages together. The Staff lounge gets a lot of traffic already. There is no need to dump even more there.
I suggest we change the navigation aid and the text in the Community Portal to seperate the on-wiki and external contact methods better, and clear up the introductory text here so that people actually stick around. We might also advertise this in the Staff lounge (so much for my argument about hight traffic there ;-)). --Swift 17:30, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Clarifying page purpose definition

I think we should define the purpose of this page more explicitly. Currently it is mostly states that it "serves much the same function as a library reference desk." Then, however, it goes on with: "Do you have a specific question that you want answered by Wikibooks? Then ask below!" but asking general questions isn't quite the purpose of a library reference desk.

I propose we restrict this to being a reference desk — restrict the questions to the books here at Wikibooks. --Swift 22:01, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Done. --Swift 22:52, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deprecate

This page is now linked to from the Wikibooks:Reading room, but still doesn't get much traffic. Requests for this type of page don't find their way to the other reading rooms. There really doesn't seem to be much demand for it. Wikibooks:Reading room/Assistance therefore be able to handle the occasional requests that belong here. I suggest that we deprecate this page. --Swift (talk) 16:05, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
