The {{shelf}} template has been deprecated and the "Bookshelves" link points to Wikibooks:Departments. What's the status of this? Can someone update the page with more up-to-date information? Thanks! --Swift (talk) 14:48, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Well awhile ago in the reading room there was discussion about deprecating the bookshelves and there appeared to be consensus to do so. The idea was to move towards Subject pages which consist of lists automatically generated through the use of categories, so people can focus more on contributing to books and less on how to make them available for readers to find.
