[edit] Unlicensed Images

In September, 2006 it was discovered that Wikibooks has somewhere over 3,000 images without licence tags. We probably have even more now.

Hosting these images on our server without licence tags may violate copyrights, and can pose a legal risk to the project. Because of this, we are going to enact a mass deletion of all unlicensed images that are more than 2 months old.

[edit] Check your Images

If you have uploaded images to wikibooks in the past, please check this page to make sure none of them are listed as having no licence information.

  • If your username does appear on the list, click on the number beside your name to get a list of your untagged images, and either add the appropriate tag, or just mark it with {{delete}}.
  • If your username does not appear on that list, all of your uploads are already tagged (thanks!).

[edit] Mass Deletion

We will soon begin deleting untagged images en masse. There is no set time yet for the deletions, but it is a safe bet that we will start deleting the oldest images before the end of November. Images without a valid license tag by that time will become candidates for speedy deletion, and will be deleted without further warning or comment.

Once this huge backlog of unlicensed images is deleted, it is the intent of the current wikibooks administrative team to be more vigilant of new unlicensed images. Images uploaded after the deletion takes place, and which are not properly licensed, will themselves become speedy delete candidates. Make sure to properly license your images.

[edit] Unnecessary Deletions

Because of the nature of this action, it is possible that good images will be deleted along with all the bad images. If an image you uploaded was deleted before you had time to add the tag, you can either re-upload it (adding the tag this time!), or request undeletion on WB:AN or WB:VFU.
