[edit] Sister projects

Sister projects or sibling projects are other wikis at the Wikimedia Foundation. One uses these templates to feature links to other such wikis.

In most case, put the template at the bottom of the page. A good place to put it is in the "External links" section, above the other external links. These templates always make a box that floats to the right, like this one.

{{generic project link| project=Meta-Wiki| image=wikimedia-logo.svg| text=[[MetaWikipedia:Main Page|Wikimedia Meta-Wiki]] has a category for:| link=[[MetaWikipedia:Category:Essays|Essays about Wikimedia projects]]}} Bottom of page

This is a generic version of the other templates shown below. For example, if there is no template to link to categories at Meta-Wiki, one can use this. One can also use "subst:generic project link" to manufacture another template such as {{wikisource}} from this template.

The ancestry of this template is:

[edit] Searches

If you call the templates from the previous section without a parameter, then they use the page with the same title as this one ("Template messages/Links"). The same page at another project is unlikely to exist, so the templates link to a search. (These templates ignore the namespace of the Wikibooks page.) (Wikibooks has a different naming policy than other projects.)

[edit] Links to A:B (*par templates)

The subtle difference between {{wikipedia|Project:Sandbox}} and {{wikipediapar|Project|Sandbox}} is that the latter has a link to "Wikipedia Project" instead of "Wikipedia".
