[edit] Waves in One Dimension

A Wave is a disturbance that travels through a medium. The particles of the medium do not move with the wave. A wave is caused by a vibration. Vibrations in a rope provide a good example of one dimensional wave motion. To be truly one dimensional, however, the radius of the rope would have to be infinitesimal.
