[edit] Don't do it

Do not make personal attacks anywhere in Wikibooks. Comment on content, not on the contributor. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Nobody likes abuse.

[edit] Consequences

Some Wikibookians remove personal attacks on third parties on sight. Users of other Wikimedia projects have been banned for repeatedly engaging in personal attacks, and if necessary it would happen here too. If you are subjected to persistent personal attacks and want help in getting them stopped, email an active Administrator, leave a message on an active Administrator's talk page, or note what is happening in the staff lounge.

Any personal attack, whether it is a snide comment or a direct personal insult, is covered by this policy. Personal attacks are not acceptable on Wikibooks and this policy imposes a duty on all Wikibookians to stop such attacks should they occur.

[edit] Ramifications

Remember that disputes on talk pages are accessible to everyone on the Internet. The way in which you conduct yourself on Wikibooks reflects on Wikibooks and on you. Stay cool.

[edit] Being reasonable

Different contributors may not agree on a module. Members of opposing communities reasonably wish to express their views. Remember to accept that we are all part of the same community as we are all Wikibookians. Remember to edit with content in mind, not those writing it.

[edit] Alternatives

Instead, try:

  • Discuss the issue in dispute, not the attributes of the other party. This does not mean that you have to agree with the other person, but just agree to disagree.
  • Never suggest a view is invalid simply because of who its proponent is.
  • Explore issues in a less public forum like e-mail if a debate threatens to become personal.
  • Read Wikibooks:Resolving disputes.
