ZIBOCE'S BEYOND TAI CHI by Peter Ziboce(owner of Ziboce Kung Fu Box)
INTRODUCTION According to Sifu Peter Ziboce, Beyond Tai Chi refers to the level of Kung Fu study that goes beyond Tai Chi level. In this article, a brief on the achievement of Tai Chi pursue is introduced based on the following items: 1. Definition 2. Hierarchy 3. Learner vs Hierarchy 4. Philosophy 5. Focus 6. Research
1. DEFINITION The road to the top level of the Kung Fu includes three levels. It starts with Wu Wei (nothing). Then comes a state called Tai Chi. Ziboce discovers further a state named Beyond Tai Chi.
2. HIERARCHY Ziboce got the inspirations from the articles of Yi Quan Guru WANG XIANG ZHAI (1885-1963) on Zhan Zhuang.
According to Wang's ideas, Ziboce categorizes the learning progress of the Kung Fu into three hierarchies.
[[1]] The first level refers to realistic Forms and Shapes, 3 - dimensions. It means something that can be materialized and visualized, i.e., surface, postures, movements, sequences, mechanics, proof, sets, styles, numerals, literal meanings, facts, measurements, targets, etc. The focus is on the balance, and harmonization.
The second level refers to shapeless Untouchables, 4 - 5 dimensions. It means something that exists, but can not be seen, i.e., penetration, feelings, methods, similes, metaphors, comparables, relatives, trends, predictions, directions, aims, crossovers, between lines, attentions, awareness, logics, imposition, etc. The focus is on the understanding of textures, changes, and mixtures.
The third level refers to abstract Mindedness, 6 + dimensions. It means something that does not exist, and cannot be seen, i.e., controls, imagination, holistic, virtues, supernatural, personalization, ac-hoc, natural, artistry, belief, emotions, etc. The focus is on creation, totality and personalization.
Each hierarchy has its distinct values and understanding of Kung Fu. Referring to Wang's Zhan Zhuang, the first level relates to the rigidity of one's framework and internals. The second level relates to the response with opponents. The third level relates to the hidden potentials linked with the surroundings.
3. LEARNER vs HIERARCHY
The normal way to learn Kung Fu, or acquire knowledge is from discipline. But Ziboce views it differently.
Discipline means mechanism, logistics, and rules. Contents and materials in the level 2 and 3, can be refined, trained, and re-shaped. It relates with time.
Level 3 registers learners who are as well born-thinkers. Focus is put on the value, rather than on the progress. Progress of the level 3 does not relate with training on time magnitude.
Viewing from the human instinct perspective, I would consider Zhan Zhuang as a shortcut to the martial art BEYOND.
4. PHILOSOPHY
Based on the Ziboce's understanding, he explores further the inner depth of Tai Chi, using the concept of Time and Space of Buddhism wisdom.
The idea is to identify the core values of Kung Fu. Ziboce categorizes the relevant materials starting from Zhan Zhang Hierarchies.
Ziboce introduces BEYOND Tai Chi, as a further forward destination on the time scale. That is, past- present- future- beyond future.
Beyond Tai Chi refers to a state of mind, a position enabling preview to the future.
[[2]]
With the understanding of the differences in the space and time referring to the time scale, Ziboce further interprets the Zhan Zhuang Hierarchies by Systems, Functions, and Evolutions. [[3]]
5. FOCUS The elements of Martial Art are Soul, Chi, and Energy. [[4]] Relationships of the elements of Martial Art are explained in the following diagram.
The overlaps are Mindedness (Mental Power), Spirit (Instinct Power), and Strength ( Physical Power).
Zhan Zhuang Hierarchies differentiate the area for the study of Mindedness.
Mindedness is where the secret of Kung Fu is about. It cannot be seen, or transmitted. Understanding requires one's inspiration, and imagination.
6. RESEARCH Further research on the verification of the theories and the applications is suggested.
