[edit] Deleting

Hey QU. I just fixed a book, Classical Mechanics. Several of its pages violated naming convention. I've fixed all links, and now several pages have become orphaned. They have colons in their names, and they don't use title case--stuff like Classical mechanics:LagrangianExercises. Do these pages get deleted? -- Mr. NMC (talk) 22:07, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, they they can be deleted, although it is normal to leave them for a short while in case an active editor of the pages "loses" them (that is, types in the old name and can't find the page). If the pages are very inactive then they can probably be deleted straight away. There's no automated means of deleting them though! Unusual? Quite TalkQu 23:03, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Alright, thanks. --Mr. NMC (talk) 23:07, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Editor Process

Hello, I am Iuio, the creator and editor for the Wikijunior United States Charters of Freedom, a book whose pages you have reviewed 3 months ago. I am usually pretty busy, and do not get the chance to edit the book very often, about once in every few months. I was wondering if you could stabilize the edits I made to Wikijunior:United States Charters of Freedom/Federalist Papers/Federalist No. 71-80 today. Thank you.

I am trying to become an editor and am making an e-mail account soon. I was wondering if you could clarify a part of the criteria for becoming an editor. One of the criteria states that a registed user must have "15 edits spaced at least 3 days apart are needed (which takes at least 42 days)". Does that mean that I need to make 15 edits to Wikibooks every 3 or more days? Or a lump sum of 15 edits in 3 days? How did they arrive at the need for 42 days minimum? Another criteia is "10 recent content edits (50 content edits total) on 10 unique pages". What is a recent content edit? To my understanding, I need to make 10 of them to 10 pages in Wikibooks. So how did they arrive at the need for 50 recent content edits? Do I need to make 5 recent content edits each to 10 pages to get 50?

I hope that you can answer my questions in the matter. As my book is a low activity one, I need someone to come in once in a while to stabilize my new edits. Until I become an editor, Is it ok if I alert you when I make an edit? Or will you put the pages on your watchlist? If you could let me know, I would be most grateful. I will try and reply to any of your responses ASAP. (Iuio (talk) 09:04, 28 May 2009 (UTC))

Hello there. I went through an exercise of reviewing all the Wikijunior pages to protect them from vandalism. I check for out-of-date reviewed pages every few days so I will pick up your changes when I do this. On the Editor criteria, my understanding is that this means if you were to edit once every three days over a period of 42 days, you'd meet the criteria. The other criteria means a total of 50 edits spread across 10 or more CONTENT pages - in other words, not TALK or TEMPLATE pages (for example). You could make 41 to 1 page, and 1 edit on each of 9 other pages to meet this criteria. Incidentally, the criteria have just changed to make it easier to be promoted, see Help:Revision review for details. There is a bug in the process somewhere and not everybody gets auto-promoted. If you think you should have met the criteria but haven't been autopromoted, let me know and I'll see what the problem is. Thanks. Unusual? Quite TalkQu 11:07, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
From what I can tell, you have so far 9 edits spaced at least 2 days apart, so you just need one more edit spaced 2 days apart to meet the updated criteria. You can edit more frequently than every two days, but those edits won't count towards the 10 edits. If you edit less frequently then every 2 days it will take longer then 20 days, as is the case for you. --darklama 12:13, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for you quick responses. So basically, to fulfill the 42 day criteia, I would have to have at least 14 edits, not 15, if I am correct. One for every 3 days. Darklama, I'm afraid I don't understand your response. To my understanding, I need to make one edit at least every 3 days, not 2, for 42 days to fulfill the criteria. In addition, where did you get the figure of 9 edits from? I am pretty sure I made more edits than that. I would really appreciate it if you could clarify this misunderstanding for me. Thank you. BTW, I have made some edits to Wikijunior:United States Charters of Freedom/Federalist Papers/Federalist No. 71-80, and Wikijunior:United States Charters of Freedom/Dunlap broadside. I would appreciate it if someone could stabilize those edits. (Iuio (talk) 10:18, 29 May 2009 (UTC))
The criterion changed from 15 edit intervals 3 day spaced to 10 edit intervals 2 day spaced - hence Darklama's comment Unusual? Quite TalkQu 11:01, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Me doing wrong?

Hi Quite thanks for the welcome i'am so used to wikipedia my edits may seem encyclopedic sorry about this could u give me the proper way of making a book? thank you for your time. --WokHush (talk) 00:19, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, if you look at the welcome message at the top of your talk page you should see some links. One of these is a guide for people coming from other projects (Help:Wikibooks for Wikimedians), the other explains what kind of book should be on Wikibooks (Wikibooks:What is Wikibooks?). Have a quick look through these and they should answer your questions. If not, let me know. Thanks. Unusual? Quite TalkQu 00:22, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thank you for removing the speedy tag on Abnormal Sexual Psychology/navtemplate‎. I was trying to clean up a few pages on the Orphaned page list and was a bit too hasty with this page. Do you know if there any nice way to see if a page is transcluded somewhere else, so I keep myself from making this mistake in the future? Thenub314 (talk) 14:56, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Hmmm! No is the short answer! There must be a way, but it was only through editing the main page of the book that I spotted it was used there. I shall think further Unusual? Quite TalkQu 21:42, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Reply to back link request for Wikipedia article imports into Wikibooks

Hello.

Thanks for the instructions. I didn't know if there was a correct way of porting articles into a book. I'll follow the instructions, so as to comply with licensing terms and author/edit credits. The articles on Hindusim that I have added previously will all be back linked. Please feel free to message me again on any policy guidelines. The articles hopefully will be re-written so as to present a continuity of style that would be more suitable for a book.

Cheers --Sluffs (talk) 11:42, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Really? Still doesn't mean Wikibooks will host anything other than textbooks! Unusual? Quite TalkQu 08:17, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] how to find the most viewed page

I dont know who else to ask, but how to find the most used or viewed wikibook? I mean wikibook is really underdeveloped compared to wikipedia. In comparison, I believe that wikipedia, as of currently, is more often used by people with internet connection (and not in china) than 'real' encyclopedia. In contrast, people still do read normal books much more than wikibooks.

The job seems overwhelming, so contributing on section no one visits feels a bit like a waste of time. So how to find the most visited page? Then I can improve such page, which usually is already top standard in the first place, and really help a lot of people. Thank You.

[edit] MS Access chapter links

[edit] User:U7a

You may recall adding content at User talk:U7a about this user's inappropriate page creations (all linked from their user page). Further non-textbook pages have been created since the point when you tried to intervene. I had moved the pages into this user's userspace until they can be combined into a coherent book (rather than being encyclopedia entries), but they have been since moved back. While these may be good-faith edits, it would seem that the point is not coming across. -- Adrignola talk contribs 18:12, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes it looks like wilful ignoring of policy.... afraid it may end up as a block. Unusual? Quite TalkQu 23:17, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Friends, so what you dont like in my text??
1. i post the articles about real things
2. all articles in english
3. all articles have a links to a root of message
Alexander Kalinins Lazars son (talk) 22:16, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

This site is for TEXTBOOKS not articles. They should be instructional texts that you might use in a classroom. Try browsing this site - perhaps the Featured Books - to get an idea of what is expected. It's not about what I like, it's about the purpose of Wikibooks. Unusual? [edit] U7A

ah so, can you help me to unblock Wikipedia?? i can help you with an information about World 2nd war. Especially about Latvian Legioneers. sincerely, Alexander.

No, we can't help with your block at WP. You were blocked from WP for posting exactly the same material as you are now posting here, and for not responding to requests to stop posting the material. The admins at WP felt you were writing adverts. You should note that adverts are not allowed here either, so writing the same material here at Wikibooks may also get you blocked. If you want to add to the WWII books here, go right ahead. Unusual? Quite TalkQu 22:34, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] U7A

i know a writer in Turkey Hasan Baran. i dont know do you know him? so, can you tell me what i posted on wikibooks last time, could be suitable to wikipedia?? sincerely, Alexander Kalinins Lazars son (talk) 22:38, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

What you have been writing here is, as you know from the feedback you have had from several editors, unsuitable as it does not constitute a textbook. It is more suitable for an encyclopedia. However, it is only suitable for Wikipedia if it verifiable and notable. I can't judge this - that's for WP editors to determine. Unusual? Quite TalkQu 22:42, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] U7A

thanks QuiteUnusual, ill post it under another name. i will try not to promote anything.

just to give a world to know about serious things which are in use and simple people doesnt know.

do you believe what by your mobile, they can locate you (2004 y)? it was in 2001 year when i was getting a messages on my Ericsson from GSM service what iam in another area of city. it was easy to develope to locate more strictly.

or as an alternative to a WiFi ID you can use your mobile to pay, to identify yourself, to use as a key and etc?? Slim mobile which gives controls of all functions of life.

also a mobile phone takes control functions, they can hear you what you talk even if you are off the line. they can locate you. they can read and hear your messages.

and with a satellite radar, they can locate a lost car (2001-2002 y)?
