[edit] My Talk Page

[edit] Assuming good faith

Hi Bullercruz1. It's evident from your passion that you care about what happens to the Blender 3D tutorials, but I just wanted to make a quick note about your recent comments on the book talk page.

From your and SoylentGreen's contributions here on English Wikibooks, it doesn't seem you guys have really discussed the issue much. Please realise that people can have different opinions without anything being "lost on them". Assuming good faith is a good rule of thumb. If you think a point isn't thought through well, take it as a well meant brainstorming idea and contribute some constructive critisim.

Oh, and have you seen the (American) movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby? Prepending "not to be rude" to a statement doesn't stop it from being rude. --Swift (talk) 03:41, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] No offense and None taken....

The comments I make and I read about my input all have this implied appendage. If I make a comment about something, yes, it will be BIASED because humans are biased animals. I am aware of my bias, it is called an opinion. Now I know that those all out there will not feel the same way in my opinion, but I hope that those of you who read my comments also have the mental capacity to sift out the "critical points" from the "emotional opinion". None of my comments are ever meant to offend, but guess what, someone somewhere will be offended by what I say no matter what the contents are. So please, PLEASE, understand that my comments are not meant to agitate, inflame, aggravate, provoke, peruse, pick-on, pervade, bastardize, irritate, vex, rouse, or infuriate any of the also very opinionated people who contribute to Talk pages. And the appendage "Not to be rude..." maybe has a different implication than to give me a free-pass to say offensive things...maybe it means that the comment I am about to make does not have to implied connotation of inflammatory purposes, moreover these comments are existent in stretching mental thought practices "outside the box" of our original preconceived notions.

Plus, assuming good faith is not something you can write a rule for. If someone takes the time to carefully write out their objections or gratitudes in coherent-yet-possibly-emotional fashions, the benefit of the doubt should be given to the user I believe.
Thank you

[edit] Copyright Problems Fixed

This section is here to alert User Swift that the copyright problems have been addressed and are believed to have been fixed by User Bullercruz1, and not disregarded. If User Swift does not feel that the corrections are acceptable, please repost problems/issues with selected problems. Thank you!

The preceding comment replaced a discussion on copyright status of screenshots. --Swift (talk) 02:24, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Actually, several of your files still have problems. The license here has to be compatible with the software license. Say for w:Blender 3D which seems to be a GNU GPL, the image would have to comply with the derivative works clause of that license. As far as I know, the GPLs all require derivative works to be GPLs as well (much criticism has been leveled against if for that fact). For Microsoft's Windows operating system, you'll probably have to use fair-use, but you might as well just cut those bits out.
I believe I already pointed you to Wikibooks:Templates/Files for what you are probably after. See the the screenshots section, in particular. --Swift (talk) 02:24, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Clayman speedy deletion edit clarification

I removed the speedy deletion tag because there is debatable value in that page. We only speedily delete obvious cases. You can always remove links to the page (to the reader, this is effectively the same as deleting it) and make a note of that on the book talk page. If it becomes redundant with other material, it can be deleted. Until then, it might be a good idea to keep it as a stepping stone for a future contributor to build on.

If you really want to delete this image as soon as possible, bring it up for a deletion discussion or demonstrate consensus amongst book contributors. The time it takes for either one depends on the responsiveness of your fellow Wikibookians. --Swift (talk) 02:06, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Categorising

One day when I have nothing better with my life to do, I'm going to start a scheme to categorise images here on Wikibooks. Seeing how active you are on Blender and how useful images are in those modules, I figured I'd draw to your attention the benefit from categorising these images.

Not all images have particularly descriptive names, few are described on the file description page and hardly any are categorised; all contributing to the fact that users don't search for existing images before uploading new ones. In the case of Blender contributors, images are very specific for the text being contributed, so old ones aren't necessarily useful. Still, it might be a good idea to add these to something like Category:Blender 3D screenshots,Category:Blender 3D images and/or something along those lines to keep tabs on these images. These would be sub-categories to Category:Blender 3D, and Category:Images or a sub-category of that.

These are for now just my personal thoughts, but I figured they might be useful to you in your work here. --Swift (talk) 02:34, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Image Depository

Hallo Bullercruz1, the idea of reusing images is a good one, but on commons.wikimedia.org are more than 1000 images in the Blender 3D category. So it may be a bit superfluous to list the images in the Noob to Pro book separately. It is necessary though that all images are uploaded to commons and have the appropriate category. --SoylentGreen (talk) 15:20, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
