I have lived in New Orleans since 1966, and enjoy creole cooking. I take my user name from Lafcadio Hearn, the journalist who moved to New Orleans in the 19th century, where he remained for more than a decade. Of Irish-Greek heritage, he grew up in Ireland before working in Cincinnati, New Orleans, and Martinique. Subsequently he moved to Japan, where he is well known for his books on Japanese folklore; many Japanese come to New Orleans in search of his house and the cafe he owned here. Hearn wrote one of the first Creole cookbooks while he lived here, and the book is still in print.

I plan to enter recipes I have actually used, including family recipes. My family is from Napoleonville, Louisiana, between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
