About Me
My name is Joe. I am a native to the area. I teach at a computer school in Virginia Beach. I teach webpage design, graphic design, desktop publishing, networking, project management and software applications. I occasionally travel for work and recently spent several weeks training at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (where they make all the money). I have also been to Hawaii, Guam, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and throughout the US for work. I love to scuba dive, skydive, and do anything fun, interesting and exciting.... at least once. Last nice adventure was a hour stunt flight with a retired US Navy pilot.

Teaching Philosophy:
My brief teaching philosophy is that the teacher should be a conduit to learning. In order for a teacher to be effective they must first saturate themselves in the subject that they are trying to explain. In the past I have read where the predominant educational philosophy was based solely on teaching practices, theory, and class room management but ignored pure content. I believe that a person can learn to be a more effective teacher by understanding how children learn, understanding teaching concepts and theories, and technology tools. But, I do not believe anything takes the place of having a passion for the students and a passion for the subject matter. If a teacher "knows" the perfect way to impart information, but doesn't really care about the kids he/she will not last very long. If a teacher understands educational theory, but doesn't know when/why/how West Virginia split from Virginia, then the content of the history lesson will be little more than fluff and the children will suffer.
