Gerald is a graduate of Canadian University College in Computer Technology, 1987, and of Red Deer College in Music (Trumpet/Theory and composition), 2004. He has worked in the area of computer network support and programming since graduating.

Gerald and his wife Shanna are both Master Guides and work with the Woodlands Pathfinder Club in Ponoka, Alberta, Canada. They also have two sons, who are both members of the club.

Gerald's hobbies include Pathfindering, music, woodworking, sailing, fishing, hiking, camping, and anything else that seems interesting at the time.
