    • çirkin : ugly
  • Personal endings

Learn these as quickly as possible, since they will be used in almost every sentence.

    • Singular
  1. -im
  2. -sin
  3. - (none)
    • Plural
  1. -iz
  2. -siniz
  3. -ler
  • Add these suffixes to an adjective and you have your first Turkish sentence.
For adjective güzel
    • Singular
  1. güzel + im = Güzelim. : I am beautiful.
  2. güzel + sin = Güzelsin. : You are beautiful.
  3. güzel + (none)= Güzel. : (She/He/It) is beautiful.
    • Plural
  1. güzel + iz = Güzeliz. : We are beautiful.
  2. güzel + siniz = Güzelsiniz. : You are beautiful.
  3. güzel + ler = Güzeller. : They are beautiful.

REMARK :Like Spanish and Latin, personal pronouns usually omitted when personal endings are enough.

Say these sentences in Turkish:
  1. I am ugly.
  2. You(singular) are ugly.
  3. She's ugly.
  4. He's ugly.
  5. We are ugly.
  6. You(plural) are ugly.
  7. They're ugly.

    • zayıf : thin (person or animal)
    • şişman : fat
  • Personal endings

Compare these endings with those given above. Notice that vowels of the suffixes given below are back vowels whereas those above were front vowels. This is due to vowel harmony.

    • Plural
  1. -ız
  2. -sınız
  3. -lar
  • Add these suffixes to adjectives given above.
For adjective zayıf
    • Singular
  1. zayıf + ım = Zayıfım. : I am thin.
  2. zayıf + sın = Zayıfsın. : You are thin.
  3. zayıf + (none)= Zayıf. : (She/He/It) is thin.
    • Plural
  1. zayıf + ız = Zayıfız. : We are thin.
  2. zayıf + sınız = Zayıfsınız. : You are thin.
  3. zayıf + lar = Zayıflar. : They are thin.
Conjugate the word şişman similarly
