Computer Storage
There is two types of storage; primary storage and secondary storage. Primary storage is RAM (random access memory). Our hard drive, our cache memory, and processor registers are primary storage. Secondary storage is in a form of a; zip discs, floppy discs, CD/DVD drives, memory cards, memory sticks etc. The most common unit of storage is byte which is one character of data. There is kilobyte which is 1024 characters, megabyte 1 048 576 characters, gigabyte which is more than 1 billion of characters, terabyte which is more than 1 trillion of characters, petabye which is 1 quadrillion of characters. Early storage methods were paper tape and punch cards but now days it has even a optical storage which uses tiny laser to illuminate the surface of our DVD’s and CD’s that we make. Now days you can use web servers for your storage which we can access anywhere we are in the world as long as we have a internet access. Storages are becoming more and more user friendly.
