Welcome, Welcome!

Getting started with Wikibooks
  • Wikibooks is a collection of open-source textbooks. Find out what this means.
  • To sign your name (on talk pages), use four tildes, like this: ~~~~
  • For help in using the wiki, see Using Wikibooks.
  • For information about the community here, see Wikibooks Community.
  • Explore, be bold, and have fun!

Come introduce yourself at the new users page. If you have any questions, you can ask there or contact me personally.

Usage

Given the value of the Wikibooks community, it is encouraged for seasoned Wikibookians to welcome new users with this template, which lists some useful links and conventions that are often helpful to new users.

Place {{subst:welcome}} on the user's talk page (not the user page itself) and sign it (--~~~~). If you can, it would be nice to include a short personal note to the new user, {{subst:welcome|1=your note here}}, which will replace the standard salutation but still display the welcome package.

There are no rules as to when to welcome new users. Generally, they should have some valid edits (not just their own user- or talk page). At the same time, welcoming users who have been with the project for a while could be taken as a disrespectful hint that they don't understand the project.
