Talk:Removal of Skunk Odor/Removing Odor
From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection
Besides the peroxide mixture, which when needed you may not have the necessary ingredients on hand, there is another very useful way to remove odor. I have used this method with great success. My two dogs got sprayed by a skunk and since I did not have any peroxide in the house and it was late at night, I used this method and it worked!!
Wet the dog down with water and then pour bottled Pepsi, not diet - regular Pepsi on the area or the whole dog if you do not where they have been sprayed. Make sure they are soaked with the Pepsi. I used the water first to make them wet so that their fur would absorb most of the Pepsi, then soaked them with a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi.
Leave the Pepsi on for about 15 minutes. I had the dog in the shower for this so I could keep them confined and let the Pepsi neutralize the skunk odor. Then using dog shampoo and water, wash out the Pepsi. If the dog still has a slight odor, you can repeat the procedure. But it was amazing the Pepsi took out the smell. Some instructions tell you to shake the bottle so you can spray the Pepsi on, but I just poured it on the dog. It worked and most people will have Pepsi on hand. I now keep two 2 litre bottles on hand for just that purpose.
