[edit] Free version of Maya
It says that the free version of Maya is hard to find. However, the free version (Personal Learning Edition) available from the publisher's website, I believe (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=7639525).
I've now added the link to the article.
[edit] Limitations of DAZ and Poser
Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Lightwave etc. all can import DAZ and Poser models often times in their entirety or close to it. Sometimes they require a plugin, however DAZ can export as Collada format. Neither DAZ nor Poser have good camera controls, nor do they allow cinemagraphic camera views nor can you constrain the camera to only realistic locations and movements as can be done in real 3d software. In short, I feel that the author is making a questionable recommendation.... ~~~~(LetterRip)
- Please clarify
- At one time, importing Poser figures into Maya, 3DS Max, and Lightwave was incomplete and awkward. If there are now IMPORT functions built into Maya, Lightwave, 3DS Max or Blender, please show a picture of the import. Be sure to clarify exactly which features of the models are imported or if only the 3D shape and not the skeleton, facial controls, etc. are imported. If this requires plug-ing, please list the required plug-ins.
- It would be great news if what you say is true but no where on the websites for these programs do they list ANY import function for Poser figures. Robert Elliott 16:05, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Importing vs. Opening
Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Lightwave etc. cannot open DAZ and Poser models. Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Lightwave etc. do not recognize these model formats. From what I have seen, the importing process is not a full import and the procedure is awkward. The plug-ins are third party and not supported by Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Lightwave. There seems to be no interest at Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Lightwave etc. to fully integrate the wonderful models for DAZ Studio and Poser. I wish they would!!!! But so far, the only fully functioning solution is using DAZ Studio and Poser. And yes, neither has good camera controls and the animation features of Poser 6 is extremely poor. Robert Elliott
