Talk:Modern History
From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection
The major problem that I can see in the development of this Wikibook is that, while there are large, ready entries at Wikipedia, we're looking for a textbook-style thing not an encyclopedia entry. While the information will largely be similar in context, we should try not to just direct copy-paste or direct link to Wikipedia articles. Wikipedia is our encyclopedia, lets make Wikibooks our textbook. --DorianGray 13:14, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] I have a cunning plan...
Okay, bear with me here. I believe this is an ideal topic for the creation of a Wikireader document (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiReader). I may well start one up, and see how it fares. Let's face it, an enormous amount of effort has gone into Wikipedia, and we should use its resources as much as possible. Interested? --Mark Lewis 19:43, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)
[edit] November 15, 2005
I have been planning to expand Modern History. Unlike World History, this book would not be constrained by AP requirements; it would be able to go into more detail about the last few centuries. Very recent events (like US in Iraq, 2003) would remain excluded from this book.
I would start by writing stub chapters. Each stub chapter would provide a very short narrative and link to some Wikipedia articles. This would accomplish having a chronological narrative. Then I would continue by adding other features, like listing important persons and providing review questions.
My contributions will be slow. (I am busy with Guide to UNIX.) This is a wiki, though, so other users are welcome to start work now! --Kernigh 22:01, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
