I can write a section on interacting with external programs, like :r ! and :w ! and :make and :K, but I'm not sure where to put it. Maybe I'll just throw it out there, and if other, better organized people can figure out where to put it.
- Go ahead, but just keep VIM-specific stuff, for example, properly clarified as VIM-specific. Take a look what I did with your .vimrc addition.
- You could probably create a new page on "interacting with external programs"? Dysprosia 13:42, 29 May 2004 (UTC)
Idea: should this be put with the section about using other OSS? seems to me like it would fit nicely there. Dhuss 20:01, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- No, some vi versions aren't open source.
[edit] Great book, but split off vim!
Hi Dysprosia! I *love* your neat vi book, I am an old vi user too, and I can still find useful hints in there. As you might know, I am in the process of reviewing some of the books to give development stages. Right now I can give your book only 50%, only because of the open sections of the vim part. If you take out the vim part, that doesn`t belong here to my opinion anyway, then I`d give your book a perfect 100%! (also the table of contents is the wrong one for the vim part). Make another book called "vi clones" or something, move those chapters there, and make a link there, like "Other Wikibooks on vi: *...". Or if you haven`t done it and I have some time, I`ll do it by myself :-) --Andreas Ipp 23:14, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)
