Talk:Knowing Knoppix
From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection
| This book is of interest to Wikiproject Unix |
The initial port from the OpenOffice (SWX) source is done.
I added the chapters, that not contains any text-formats and/or pictures. Please help me to port these - the rest - chapters, because i haven't the time at the moment!
- Is there a reason why you didn't just do ctrl+a, and then copy it all onto wikibooks? Then edit it to make it work on wikibooks? Reub2000 22:23, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Cleanup and Split
Hmm... Just a thought: Shouldn't this page be split into lots of smaller articles? It's taking way too long to load at the moment. --Noogz 07:53, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Good idea! If you intend to do so, please have a look at recent conversions, like How To Build A Computer, and the advice giving there: Talk:How To Build A Computer#Organizing the book. Be careful not to split it up too much, a couple of sections would be fine. Also, have a look at the discussion at Wikibooks:Hierarchy naming scheme. --Andreas 08:07, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- Please wait (with the layout) until i updated the text to the newest version (from 7 may), an uploaded the pictures, thanx. -- reviczky 22:40, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- It's so much text to scroll through to get to something that you could be looking for. This MUST be split into multiple sections. Updating and syncing can still happan if it is split. Smaller pages might even make your job easier. Reub2000 22:03, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

- I've split off Other Applications, will do more. Snargle 02:01, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

- All factored up :) Snargle 05:37, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

- I've noticed a lot of screenshots missing. Unfortunately, I can't contribute many, being a happy Gnome user :) Snargle 18:48, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Transwiki to Wikisource
I have tagged this for a transwiki to Wikisource. Wikisource is a sister project of Wikibooks for source texts, which are books you copy from outside. See Wikibooks:What is Wikibooks.
"Knowing Knoppix" is a source text from http://www.pjls16812.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/knowing-knoppix/index.html --Kernigh 00:51, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sure this book wasn't intended to be part of wikisource. It's more a textbook than most of the stuff here. Besides, it has been edited a bit since it was dumped here(mostly by me). I think it would be better to rename it as a KDE textbook or something. --Snargle 20:19, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

- I agree. This is a textbook and as such belongs on wikibooks, Jguk 19:30, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
I withdraw my transwiki suggestion. This book was modified, and it is one of our best books, so we should leave it here. Do not transwiki. --Kernigh 20:07, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
