Gmasters2: The outline of this book is a great start! Networking is very difficult to teach to high school students in the vocational setting because of the high readability level of traditional textbooks. Further compounding the teaching of networking to high school students in the voc-tech high school is the learning style of many of the students. I teach networking in a voc-tech high school where the students are in networking 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.

The ideal curriculum is certification-based, meaning that the competencies taught meet the requirements set forth by national/international certification bodies, such as CompTIA and others. This is critical as the goal of the voc-tech high shcool is twofold: 1) prepare students for employment upon course completion, and 2) serve as a link to more advanced training at the community college or university level.

Currently, I am using a commercially-produced curriculum produced by Course Technologies that provides training in networking qualifying the students to sit for the CompTIA i-Net+ and Network+ certifications. I also teach Linux to prepare students for the CompTIA Linux+ certification.

The thrust of the programs is lab-based. Students today demand interactive texts and the Internet is perhaps the best way to deliver the material. The only downsides to commercial programs are that they are not always "chunked" into modules that lend themselves to high school students.

I'm willing to submit a course outline that could form the basis of a full-fledged i-Net+ high school curriculum.

Guest: What is the difference between this project and the wikipedia? Should we copy definitions of all of these net services from the wikipedia as a starting point? In what way will we need to edit that content to make it more "textbook" like?

What is the difference between this project and the wikipedia? - exactly! As written, this page is far too technical and un-interesting for students - it is basically a wikipedia definition. don't interlink everything - exactly.
