[edit] Book Overhaul

I suggest we start looking at an overhaul of this textbook, if anyone else is interested. The introductory page seems rather scant and doesn't really dicuss IR as a field, just a cursory examination of realism and liberalism.

While, arguably, the two most important ideas to walk out of an IR class with a grasp on, is that really introducing the discipline? The prologue goes back into this discussion.

I would suggest we re-write the introductory page to introduce the major areas of the discipline, and the primary thinkers and a general history to this day. Although not yet started, retain the "Core Concepts" chapter or some similar variant (I think a discussion of IR as a scientific discipline, postivist and postpositivist methods, etc, would be beneficial early on). Then break into separate chapters for the major paradigms (Realism and Liberalism, obviously, but we might include Constructivism on its own, plus a catchall for more minority theories like postmodernism and marxism). Strategic studies should probably be eliminated as it is a niche i-d field, not a part of IR.

After that, we have chapters on various important concepts, debates, etc., in IR. I think chapters on the UN, MNCs, civil wars, nuclear proliferation, globalization, and IPE, to name a few, would be good for illustrating the debates and interests of IR as well as helping to show how the theories work in evaluating the debates.
