Could someone please explain what some of these connections are FOR? In particular, why do we have USB and Ethernet jacks on this box? 24.126.51.176Donald Hosek

Some of the boxes were originally designed during the 'convergence' heyday era, and included everything but the kitchen sink. Many newer models have deleted many items, such as video input.

I wish to set up a IR connection so that I can control the top box on my Motorola 3412 with the Comcast supplied remote. There is a concection on the back of the box and the configuration screen says it is active but I have no idea what I need to plug into the IR port to make it work. I really would like to place the top box inside a cabinet and out of sight.

Any help from somewone that knows this stuff would be appreciated.

  • The IR port is for an IR Blaster, but there is no software support for it.

The 3416 has a card slot on the front and composite. The 3412 is the model that has no front connections. To say the 34xx has no front connections is overly broad.
