Talk:Hindi/Everyday Phrases
From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection
The majority of the words listed here are either wrong or not really translations at all just the indian dialect of english,
- This is not exact. Remember that modern Hindi accepts English words. While the textbook will tell you that bussines is व्यापार, most people, especially young, will just use बिज़निस. I agree that the page contains real errors. First, किधर must never be transliterated as KID-HAR, but as KI-DHAR, because ध=DHA is a single character. It is the very same mistake as if you would write "nowhere" as NOW-HERE. Moreover, किधर can only refer to direction. Sentence: "Where are you going?" can be translated as "तुम कहाँ जा रहे हो?" or "तुम किधर जा रहे हो?" However, "where are you" can only be written "तुम कहाँ हो", किधर must not be used here. The more honorific variants with आप are correct too. It will need more work to make everything right. --Zdeněk Wagner (ज़्देन्येक वाग्नेर) (talk) 16:48, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
