One of the greatest ways to improvise is to play so called (blind) For example! you have just finished practicing and now your ready for some of life's happy mistakes. Just close your eyes, and make a few sounds with your mouth and then try to find these same sounds on the guitar, it will be hard at first, but in a few weeks you will have a Santana Nack...Practice is great, but mistakes are where the hidden surprises live. Happy playing Gregg

[edit] Key

Should this really say that you are often able to determine key by the first note or chord played? That is a common misconception, and it's just plain unreliable.

One way of determining the key is by using the whole step, half step technique. For instance if two minor chords in the progression are one whole step apart, "Gm & Am" the key would be "F" or one whole step down from the first minor chord.

The formula is: F (WS) Gm (WS) Am (HS) Bb(maj7) (WS) C7 (WS)Dm (WS) E half diminished (HS)F
