Yup - if a double stop is simply playing two notes at the same time, you just push down two keys on the piano.... hey presto, a double stop! Dave

Double stopping doesn't just mean two notes played at the same time. On guitar, double stopping means holding down (stopping) two strings onto the fretboard at any position (except open) in order to produce a 'dyad' or 'interval' when the strings are played. Double stopping doesn't apply to piano playing.

And if it did just mean playing two notes at the same time, it certainly wouldn't be restricted to string instruments (xylophones, bagpipes, pipe organs, and harmonicas are just a few non-string instruments that can play more than one note at a time). 151.200.237.145 04:36, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I would agree here. Double stopping only happens when ONE string is stopped in two placed, if done correctly, you amplify certain harmonics and produce a two-tone effect. This is not the same as just plucking two strings at once. (stestagg) 86.140.72.186 21:30, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
