I think it is a good idea to break down this page into several other pages, because each chord type really should get special attention. And also, if this page is expanded much more, it'll get huge. I have broken down this page's content across several other pages, and made reference to new pages that should be created. Sounds good, we can coordinate which pages to write, actually. My experience with formatting is limited, and everytime I have tried to rearrange the sections I screwed it up. Hopefully this will become a good book in time. I don't have a digital camera handy, but I possibly could upload photos of the proper fingerings this weekend, depending on my AP Calculus/Physics homework situation. [edit] What's the goal of this page?

Currently this page is a description of different chord types, but it seems to be more "music theory" than "guitar theory". I think the Music wikibook does a pretty good job of getting the basics of music theory covered, and I don't think it would be necessary to duplicate all that content here. In contrast, the German guitar wikibook begins their Rhythm Guitar section with "Chord Types", which is a detailed explanation of the theory behind the different types of barre chords and how they're related on the neck. However, they also have another page, Barrechords, which has roughly the same purpose of our Guitar/Barre Chords page.

So I am wondering exactly what the purpose of this page should be, or even if it should exist in it's current form. Perhaps it would be better renamed to something like "Chord Theory", and it be given a slightly different purpose. Certainly it would be more effective to teach people about the different chord types by demonstrating how they can be played on the guitar, not just providing the theory behind the chord.

I also worry about duplication, because like in the German wikibook, a lot of the content in the Barre Chord section is covered in the Chord Types section, although for a slightly different purpose. Perhaps there could be some way to merge the content of the two pages into a single comprehensive page. Thoughts? --NickPenguin 03:05, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
